The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) provides Fishing Activity data. Fish landings are available by value and weight for each species from 1991-2001. Vessel and Fishermen registrations are also available from 1986-2001. You can find data by province, zone, country or coastal community. Neither landings or registrations are available by wharf because the Department of Fisheries and Oceans collects landings data by port. Ports do not have a direct relationship with wharves. Furthermore, catch is not always counted at the landing wharf. Vessels and fishermen can be registered in one location but fish from another. For these reasons, we have assigned Fishing Activity data to the 79 coastal communities. From this data you can get an idea of the activities in your area and see how it compares to other parts of the province.
